OMG you guys! I cannot tell you how much I’ve been chomping at the bit to show off this snowy session. I’m honored to be photographing Jamie & Mike’s wedding day this year and this gal wanted a snowy engagement session SO BAD and we were almost certain it just wasn’t going to happen for us. After some disappointing snow flurries early in the season which amounted to little more than a dusting that was melting by the time either of us was on the phone to begin planning logistics we both resigned ourselves to hope for a late season snow but things were looking pretty bleak (ie sunny and WARM). I knew how much Jamie really wanted a snow session so I had even started calling around to my photography friends in other northern cities to call me if any snow hit their area and we’d just make a road trip…. it wasn’t looking promising.

But then….. this lovely and random one-day blizzard arrived in true mid-western style! And it was just what we needed! The stars really aligned for this with both Jamie and Mike off work that day already and the opening in my schedule falling right after school these two were able to pick up their little guy and make it over to the park in the midst of a gorgeous snowfall! After that perfect session we’re all so happy we hadn’t jumped the gun and tried to make a session work with a tiny bit of snow because our patience was rewarded with this BLIZZARD!

And from a kid’s point of view how cool is it you get to PLAY IN THE SNOW for your portrait session?!?!

I’m so excited these guys have opted to share their wedding day with me and have me be a part of creating their family legacy and even more thrilled we were able to create exactly what Jamie envisioned for their engagement/family session. We have ONE opening left for a 2017 wedding and are currently booking 2018 (only 8 openings left) so don’t hesitate to call to schedule a time when we can chat about creating your portrait vision. Bonus Friday POST!!! I’m so ready to show off Abbey & Andrew to you guys that I couldn’t wait until next Tuesday for the usual post. These two were referred over by the Beasley’s and I’m so glad they were. We had a great time on quite a chilly fall day creating engagement portraits for them.

While I like what we created for them downtown (especially love that they showed up with Coffee Connection coffee in hand!) I absolutely love what we found/created down at Lake Decatur. Believe it or not we found all this lovely fall color at their DECEMBER session.

Check out how perfectly these two coordinated their outfits… heck even her eyes match it!

Since I knew when we pulled into the parking lot that the best color I saw was at the top of this very steep hill, I decided to make the best of that climb up and try something a little out of the box with a little silhouette image.

| Orrick Family Portraits | Downtown + Country Club of Decatur |

Check out the Orrick Family!!! I swear these guys are the most photogenic and well-behaved little guys I’ve photographed (maybe ever lol). The Orrick family was amazing to work with and when Kristi said she wanted to do our longer session to work in two locations I was a little skeptical that I could hold the attention of three young boys for that long. But these three (and mom and dad) did amazing! They were perfect at following directions and boy did they bring the charm (just look at those smiles).

And Kristi already knew she wanted to make sure we fit in time for images around the Country Club golf course since Steve works there and these guys are quite the golfers! Well I love any time we can add a personal touch to a session like this and the golf course is absolutely beautiful (one of my FAVORITE Decatur wedding venues!!)

I’m so glad that we were able to not only design a feature wall art piece and some accents for their home but also that they decided to showcase all their favorite images in one of our legacy albums. This is always my favorite way to preserve and highlight this slice of time in my client’s lives.

BONUS Friday post! And what better way to end your week (before a cold/icy weekend) than with cuddly baby photos?!?!

Being a single momma has to be one of the toughest jobs on the planet and the ladies who are raising their little ones solo are some of the strongest, smartest, most loving and hard-working people I’ve met. But though they want/love/cherish photographs of their perfect little ones it’s often something they have to do without so they can provide the other more-essential items.

Well I was lucky enough to be able to gift this lovely new momma and her little man Lucas a session while I was back home in Missouri this fall. And in 2017 I’m excited to be working on a project to gift other single moms family portraits… the project is just in the beginning stages but I will be planning something around early August in memory of my own momma (stay tuned I hope we are able to create something really special!).

If you follow me on instagram (@sjanephotography) you may remember seeing some behind the scenes from this session. Knowing we were shooting on a cool morning and on location (since I was just passing through Missouri for the day) I decided to crank the heat in the car and create a little studio spot right there! This is definitely my first time in over 12 years of work that I’ve shot in my trunk but it worked out great and we were able to keep Lucas warm and comfy!

| McCoy Annual Family Portraits | Limited Edition Mini Sessions | Decatur IL |

I love meeting new clients, but there is something really special about repeat clients. Having the chance to watch families grow and change over the years is a pretty awesome part of this job and I’m excited to have worked with this adorable group for the last 4-5 years to create their annual family portraits.

It’s rare these days with our busy lives that I find families who do make the time to get in front of the camera EVERY year and I’m so glad these guys do. I’ve watch Cruz (the littlest) grow from a baby into a spunky toddler and energetic little boy. Chloe is growing into quite the young lady and is so helpful on session both with her brothers and even with my gear that she might just have to start tagging along with me on sessions for the extra hands. And Ryne (who never used to smile for the camera) is getting used to this whole photo thing every year and is now a pretty suave little man!

For the first time this year we decided to do something a little Christmas themed for these guys as well as inlcuding in their pup since we hadn’t done that in a few years.

The McCoy’s have a pretty good rhythm in place for updating their focal wall art pieces in the home. We have a designed a gallery wall for them with a large focal piece and a series of smaller images as well. Last year we updated their smaller pieces and this year (with the dog) it was time to update the large wall art (with the one below!).

Families don’t feel bad if it’s been 1 year or 10 years since your last family portrait! Today is always the right time for your next one and even with a quick 15 minute Limited Edition session we can update your family legacy and leave something fun for your kids to love today and for the rest of their lives.
